Technology use by children can be difficult to navigate, and many parents struggle to find a balance that works for their family. Creekside Intermediate and Wylie Elementary see this issue as one of many challenges of raising children in today’s world. The two schools have partnered to form a steering committee comprised of Creekside and Wylie parents and staff to plan and facilitate sessions to help families support their children’s social and emotional well-being.
For the first of these sessions, The Creekside-Wylie Connections Steering Committee will bring in Dr. Tiffany Munzer on Wednesday, May 8th to present information to parents/guardians on how they can help their tweens balance technology. Dr. Munzer is a fellow in developmental behavioral pediatrics at the University of Michigan, interested in how families use digital media together. She is passionate about helping families find a balance with technology that works for their lives, while facing many other competing demands. In addition to this session, Dr. Munzer will return to continue work with Creekside and Wylie during the 2019-2020 school year.
The May 8th session held at Creekside Intermediate from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. will offer a chance for parents/guardians of tweens to connect with one another and hear the latest research related to the effects of technology on children. Attendees will receive a menu of strategies for balancing technology with their family and have an opportunity to talk with Dr. Munzer and school staff at the end of the session.
