Softball: Dexter racks up two more wins with sweep of Adrian

With Districts looming in the on-deck circle, the Dexter softball team continues to improve and add to their win total. The Dreadnaughts added two more wins on Monday following a double-header sweep of visiting Adrian.

Dexter took the opener 10-8 and then scored a 14-6 win in the nightcap.

The Dreadnaughts actually fell behind early in the first game as the Maples scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Dexter got three back in the bottom of the frame and tied the game with a run in the second.

Again, Adrian took the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Dexter answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-7 lead. Adrian added a run in the sixth. Dexter pounded out 11 hits and committed three errors.

The top of the order led the Dexter offense. Leadoff hitter Jenna Wagenschutz was 3-for-3 including a double with two RBI, three runs scored and a walk. Lillie Robeson, who batted second, was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Livvy Melifont, batting third, had a hit and two RBI and Paige Sayler had a hit, two walks and a run scored.

Sam Sutton pitched in relief and allowed just one hit, three runs with eight strikeouts for Dexter. Brenna Cassidy went 2.1 innings and allowed three hits and one run.

Dexter scored a run in every inning, including four in the second and three in both the fourth and sixth in the 14-6 win in the second game. Dexter actually trailed 6-5 at one point but pounded out 17 hits to win going away.

Kylee Niswonger moved into the leadoff spot and delivered a 4-for-5 game including a triple and a double with four runs scored and three RBI. Sutton was 3-for-3 including a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Sorter was 3-for-4, Emily Lance had two hits including a double with two runs scored, and Alexis Haley had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Camryn Chase had a double, walk, run scored and an RBI. Mack Gordon had a hit and two RBI.

Sayler pitched well in relief to earn the win. She allowed just one hit, no runs with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
