ANN ARBOR, MI -United Way of Washtenaw County will kick off its 2019 fundraising campaign on September 17, 2019, with a luncheon at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center. This event will focus on United Way programs and initiatives powered by local businesses and individuals.
United Way envisions an equitable community where opportunity is not limited, and every member reaches their full potential. Through United Way’s Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program, over $1.8 million in refunds and credits were returned to Washtenaw County taxpayers. Last year, more than $4.2 million was invested by United Way in nonprofit programs that sustain a social safety net of community supports.
“Washtenaw County is truly a remarkable place, where a sense of community is strong, yet inequity persists here,” said Megan Mazurek, campaign co-chair. “Which is why our United Way invests in solutions to increase the opportunity for all. And we believe every dollar counts” added campaign co-chair, Kyle Mazurek.
The luncheon will also recognize community leaders who have pledged to assist with the important work of raising money to invest in programs that address the unique health, education, and financial stability issues that many Washtenaw County members face. By 2030, United Way aspires to live in a community your zip code no longer determines your opportunity in life.
