Swimming: Dexter dunks Huron in SEC crossover meet

The Dexter girls’ swimming and diving team continued its strong start last week with an impressive 106-80 win over a very strong Huron team in an SEC crossover meet.

The Dreadnaughts took second in the medley relay as the team of Lauren Witte, Emma Sortor, Zoe Michos and Lily Witte went 1:57.92.

Junior Hailee Waters won the 200 free in 2:00.96 and teammate Elizabeth Merz was second in 2:06.09.

Michos, a senior, won the 200 IM in 2:23.59.

Junior Charlotte Schultz earned a D-2 state-cut time in the 50 freestyle. The junior went 25.11 to finish second. Huron’s Annaliese Streeter earned a D-1 state cut time with her winning time of 24.28 seconds. It was a fast 50 free.

The diving competition featured some outstanding performances from both teams. Huron’s Annie Costello took first overall with a score of 283.65. Right behind were Dexter’s pair of standout freshman. Lily Witte was second (281.90) and Vivian Kinnard was a very CLOSE third (281.80). Both scores broke Witte’s varsity record set earlier this month – Lily remains the varsity record holder by .1 points and they now hold the top two highest scores in school history.

Dexter’s Emma Sortor was second in the butterfly in 1:04.88 and Theresa Rutz was third (1:06.58).

Schultz won the 100 free in 55.46. Merz was third in 57.88.
