Swimming: Dexter splashes its way to first place at competitive Plymouth Invitational

The Dexter swimming and diving team swam up to Plymouth on Saturday for the Plymouth Invitational. The scoring for the meet only allowed the designated A & B entries for each team to score, limiting Dexter’s great depth.

It didn’t matter. The Dreadnaughts swam off with first place.

Dexter scored 476 points, only 12 points better than second-place Plymouth.

Salem was third (366) followed by Jackson (301), Clarkston (251) and White Lake Lakeland (246).

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in diving with Vivian Kinnard first with 257.65 points and Lily Witte second with 253.2 points.

Dexter’s 200 medley relay team of Lauren Witte, Lily Witte, Zoe Michos and Holly Durand swam second with a time of 1:56.57. The Dreadnaughts’ team of Maddi Matos, Kamille Balcom, Emma Sorter and Dani Schulz touched fourth in 2:02.67 as Dexter showed off its impressive depth.

Hailee Waters won the 200 free with a winning time of 1:59.31. Elizabeth Merz was third (2:01.98) for the Dreads.

Dexter went three-four in the IM with Lauren Witte third (2:23.58) and Michos fourth (2:24.36).

Charlotte Schultz was second in the 50 free with a time of 25.66. Lily Witte was sixth (26.78).

Sorter brought home first-place points when she won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.11. Theresa Rutz was fourth (1:05.83).

Waters followed up her win in the 200 free with a second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 55.01. Durand was fourth (58.38) for Dexter.

Schultz went the distance to win the 500 free in 5:19.58.

The Dreads had a big showing in the 200 free relay – again, showing off that depth. The team of Lily Witte, Waters, Schultz and Merz took a very close second in 1:44.95. Plymouth won in 1:44.02 – yeah, that’s pretty close. The team of Lauren Witte, Sortor, Michos and Marea Balcom took third in 1:48.18.

In the backstroke, Lauren Witte was second in 1:04.82. Matos was fourth (1:06.68).

Michos was second in the breaststroke with a time of 1:14.44. Kamille Balcom was fifth (1:18.24).

Dexter’s team of Schultz, Durand, Waters and Merz took second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:47.72.
