Swimming: Dreadnaughts beat River Rats to the finish line with 92-84 win

In a match-up of two strong swimming programs, Dexter out-touched Huron 92-84 in an SEC crossover dual-meet on Tuesday.

The Dexter team of Zach Norris, Stuart Bovich, Tanner Sharp and Lucas Greatorex won the opening medley relay in 1:44.36. The Huron team of Noah Flott, AJ Stewart, Kevin Zhou and Brian Moskus took second in 1:44.69.

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the 200 free with Paul Schaefer first in 1:49.08 and Leo Varitek second in 1:49.66. Huron’s Drew Lindstrom was third in 1:55.60.

Norris won the 200 IM for Dexter in 2:04. 17. Huron’s Flott was second in 2:09.17 and Dexter’s Adam Hauser was third in 2:11.0.

In the 50-free, Sharp touched first in 22.21 followed by Huron’s Stewart (23.23) and Brian Moskus (24.12).

Dexter sophomore Cole Warren won diving with 260 points.

Stewart led a Huron sweep in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.75. Zhou was second in 58.65 and Peter Fazekas was third in 59.63.

Varitek splashed up first-place points for Dexter with his time of 50.29 in the 100 free. Flott was second in 51.03 and Sean Underwood third in 53.31 for the River Rats.

Schaefer, a senior, won his second race of the meet with a 4:55.41 in the 500 free. Lindstrom was second (5:00.43) and Ben Hires third (5:13.35) for the River Rats.

The Dexter team of Sharp, Varitek, Greatorex and Schaefer won the 200 free relay in 1:34.38. The Huron team of Zhou, Stewart, Schmitzerle and Brian Moskus took second in 1:35.05.

In the backstroke, Norris took first with a time of 58.10 and Bovich second in 1:01.08 for the Dreadnaughts. Huron’s Joe O’Neal was third in 1:04.09.

Sharp won the breaststroke in 59.45 for Dexter. Huron’s Schmizerle was second (1:06.83) and Zhou third (1:07.92).

The Dexter foursome of Varitek, Norris, Schaefer and Adam Hauser took first in 3:24.34. The Huron team of Flott, Lindstrom, Underwood and Hires took second in 3:33.45.
