Sports Roundup: Field hockey, volleyball teams add to their win totals

The Dexter field hockey team scored two goals in the second quarter and added two more in the second half to remain unbeaten in 2020 with a 4-0 win Monday over East Grand Rapids HS.

Marrisa Skinner put Dexter on the board with an unassisted goal. Shannon Schoch, with an assist from Gracie Burns, pushed Dexter’s lead to 2-0.

In the second half, Abby Tamer scored with an assist from Kylee Niswonger. Skinner scored her second of the game to make it 4-0.

Esther Hashikawa and Hannah Baldwin shared the goaltending duties to earn their 10th shutout of the year.

Dexter hosts Grosse Pointe South at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Volleyball

Dexter opened its dual-match against host Adrian on Tuesday by making a statement. What else do you call a 25-9 win? The Dreadnaughts SET the tone early and despite a slip in game three, knocked off the Maples 3-1 to remain undefeated in the SEC White Division.

The Dreadnaughts won game two 25-15 before falling 25-23 in the third game. Dexter bounced right back with an easy 25-10 victory to finish off the Maples.

Delaney Arnedt (29) and Eleanor King (25) had 54 of Dexter’s 61 assists.

Jordan Kless led Dexter with 17 kills while King had 11, Avery Goodrich had eight and Mikah Salemi had seven for the Dreads.

Kless had seven aces and King had four.

Dexter had four players in double figures in digs. Livvy Mellifont had 24, Kless had 15 and King and Goodrich each had 12.

The Dreadnaughts host a quad-match on Thursday. First serve is at 5 p.m.
