Swimming: Dreadnaughts easily navigate around pool full of Pirates

The Dexter girls’ swimming and diving team didn’t skip a beat or miss a stroke despite going up against some Pirates last Thursday. The Dreadnaughts cruised past Pinckney 150-32 in an SEC White Division match and remain undefeated on the season.

Dexter improves to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the division.

Let’s dive into some results.

Among the highlights was Charlotte Schultz, who earned a new state cut in the 200 freestyle.

The Dexter medley relay team of Lauren Witte, Natalie Koenn, Holly Durand and Emma Sortor took first in 2:00.73. The team of Marea Balcom, Maddy Matos, Lily Witte and Theresa Rutz took second in 2:04.50.

Schultz won the 200 freestyle with her D-2 qualifying time of 1:59.52. Claire Blodgett was third (2:20.13) and Parker Delaney fourth (2:20.14) – yeah, that’s a pretty close finish.

In the 200 IM, Gwen Tatara was first (2:31.95), Koenn second (2:32.38) and Angela Castle third (2:38.81).

Dexter swept the 50 free with Hailee Waters (26.23), Durand (27.21) and Sortor (27.65).

As usual, Dexter dominated the diving with Lily Witte taking first with 267.90 points. Vivian Kinnard was second (242.47) and Elysa Grossman took third with 204.

In the butterfly, the Dreadnaughts took the top three spots with Isa Reyes (1:06.03), Balcom (1:09.96) and Lily Witte (1:11.08).

Lauren Witte won the 100 free with a time of 57.01. Matos was second (59.02) and Sorter fourth (1:01.56) for Dexter.

The Dreadnaughts dominated the 500 free. Alexis TerBush took first with a time of 6:01.98. Castle was second (6:02.11), Parker third (6:12.57), Rose Clark fourth (6:17.85) and Sophia Marr fifth (6:34.99).

The Dexter foursome of Parker, Lauren Witte, Balcom and Schultz took first in the 200 free relay in 1:49.50. The team of Higgins, Rutz, Blodgett and Castle took second in 1:57.40. The foursome of Taylor Onsted, Elysa Grossman, Kinnard and Lily Witte was third in 2:05.38.

Waters took first for Dexter in the backstroke with a time of 1:04.54. Durand was second (1:06.85) and Walton third (1:08.95) for the Dreads.

Dexter swept the breaststroke with Koenn first (1:17.35), Reyes second (1:23.19) and Elizabeth Young third (1:25.90).

The group of Matos, Waters, Lauren Witte and Schultz won the 400 free relay in 3:55.07. The team of Castle, Sorter, Higgins and Tatara was second in 4:12.90. And the team of TerBush, Blodgett, Marr and Walton was third in 4:28.42.
