The playoff picture has been brought into focus and the defending Division 1 Field Hockey state champions will begin their 2020 MHSFHA state tournament run on familiar turf.
The Dexter Dreadnaughts have earned the top seed and will face eighth-seeded Marian at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Al Ritt Stadium in a first-round game. Dexter defeated Marian 8-0 back on Sept. 16.
Huron, the fourth seed, will face Saline, seeded fifth, on the other side of Dexter’s bracket. The winners will face in the semifinals Oct. 29.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Pioneer will face Forest Hills Grand Rapids at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Dexter. Skyline, the third seed, will play Novi, seeded sixth. The winners of those two games also meet on Oct. 29.
A Skyline-Pioneer semifinal game would be an interesting, competitive and highly anticipated showdown. The two teams tied 1-1 on Sept. 16 and Pioneer won the second game 4-2 on Sept. 30.
The Dreadnaughts, meanwhile, will have a tough opponent in their semifinal game as well. They have beaten Saline twice (3-0, 2-0) and Huron once (4-1).
Dexter has not lost this season and has only tied once – 3-3 at Skyline on Oct. 5.
The championship game is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Dexter.
