Boys Basketball: Dreadnaughts dribble past Monroe (see WLD photo gallery)

Junior guard Cal Bavineau scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter and senior forward Colin Parachek scored nine of his 14 points in the second half to help lead the Dexter boys’ basketball team to a 55-49 win Thursday over visiting Monroe in an SEC White matchup.

“While we were excited to play a game, it was as though we weren’t in it mentally and that’s on me as a coach to get us there,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “This is an awkward year and we need to stay sharp and be prepared for anything. So we are proud of our guys for battling and just finding a way to get it done again.”

Dexter had an unusually high 19 turnovers which didn’t help and Monroe played a solid game from start to finish.

Evan Haroldson continues to be steady for the Dreadnaughts. The sophomore finished with 13 points including two triples in the first quarter. Junior Ty Rychener did a great job defensively and pitched in with five points.

Bavineau also had five assists and Parachek grabbed eight rebounds.

Dexter trailed 14-12 after the first quarter but took a 29-24 lead into halftime after scoring 17 points in the second quarter. Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter and the Dreads outscored the Trojans 14-13 in the final period.

Dexter plays at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 27) at Parma Western.
