Competitive Cheer: Varsity finishes second, middle school takes first at Northwest Invitational

It was a performance worth cheering about.

The Dexter Middle School (Mill Creek) and Dexter High School competitive cheer teams competed at the Northwest Invitational on Saturday at Northwest High School. And the middle school team took first place while the DHS varsity team had another strong performance with a second-place finish.

The varsity was split into two four-team events. Dexter took second overall with 650.82 points. The Dreadnaughts scored 206.80 in the first round, 196.72 in round two and finished the day with a third-round score of 247.30.

Mason landed first with 749.68 points. Northwest was third with 601.58 points and Western was fourth with 563.00 points.

Michigan Center won the other group with a score of 732.04.

Dexter Middle School took first place in the MS Session with a score of 379.28. They scored 126.68 in round one and then 252.60 in round two. Northwest was second (346.20), Bedford third (313.06) and Morenci fourth (303.94).

Dexter will host a middle school meet on March 2. Teams from Chelsea, Saline, Pinckney and Bedford will be among the schools competing.

The Dreadnaughts will compete March 10 at the SEC White League Meet in Pinckney.
