The Dexter girls’ basketball team didn’t exactly come flying out of the gate on Monday night at Pinckney but once they found their groove the Dreadnaughts were off to the races.
Dexter trailed 4-2 after the first quarter before Sydney Pnacek knocked down four triples and scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second quarter to lead Dexter to a 39-13 victory over the Pirates.
“We could not buy a bucket in the first quarter,” said Dexter Coach Lauren Thompson. “Sydney finally had the game we were waiting for! She has tremendous shooting ability and until tonight hasn’t really had a game to demonstrate that ability. It was fun to see the confidence grow as she continued to drain threes!”
Pnacek, the talented 5-10 junior forward in her third year on varsity, finished the night with six three-pointers. She helped Dexter outscore Pinckney 16-0 in the second quarter to take an 18-4 halftime lead.
The Dreadnaughts outscored the Pirates 7-6 in the third quarter and 14-3 in the fourth quarter.
Dexter defeated Pinckney earlier in the season 57-40.
Chloe Perry scored five points and Maddi Valentine and Kayla Rivers each scored three points for the Dreadnaughts.
The Dreadnaughts host Tecumseh on Wednesday.
