Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts rally with big fourth quarter to topple Bedford

The Dexter girls’ basketball team locked up its win over Bedford on Saturday at the free-throw line. The Dreadnaughts, who trailed after each of the first three quarters, scored 20 points in the fourth quarter including 12 of 15 free-throw attempts to knock off the Kicking Mules 47-40.

Dexter made 16 of 21 free-throw attempts in the game compared to 7 of 9 for Bedford.

The Kicking Mules led 9-8 after the first quarter and 19-15 at halftime. Dexter outscored Bedford 12-10 in the third quarter but still trailed 29-27 heading into the final period. The Dreads outscored the Kicking Mules 20-11 in the final quarter to shoot the SEC White Division game into win column.

Sydney Pnacek helped Dexter take over the game in that fourth quarter. The junior forward scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the final period including 5 of 6 at the line. Maddi Valentine also came up huge late for the Dreadnaughts. The junior guard scored five of her 13 points in the fourth quarter including 3 of 4 from the line.

Alayna Babut turned in another strong performance for the Dreadnaughts. The senior forward finished with 10 points, including a triple and a perfect 5 for 5 at the line during the game.

Chloe Perry had four points, Kayla Rivers hit a triple and scored three points and Shannon Schoch had two points to round out the scoring.

Dexter hosts Jackson on Tuesday, Chandler Park on Wednesday and play at Tecumseh on Friday.
