Girls Basketball: Local teams prepare for upcoming and competitive Districts

The local girls’ basketball teams are gearing up for the high school District tournament which begins next week. Let’s take a look at what the locals have lined up.

Skyline will host Division 1 District 17 and the bracket includes some quality teams. The host Eagles will play at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 22 against South Lyon in the second game of a doubleheader. In the first game, a very strong Dexter team will take on Pinckney at 5:30 p.m. The Dreadnaughts have defeated the Pirates twice this season.

The Dexter-Pinckney winner faces Brighton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24 in the first semifinal game. The Skyline-South Lyon winner plays South Lyon East in the second game at 7 p.m. The finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 26.

Pioneer and Huron will play in the District 18 bracket at Saline. Pioneer will open things up with Ypsilanti at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 22. Huron has the second game against Lincoln starting at 7 p.m. The Pioneer-Ypsilanti winner faces Belleville at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the first semifinal. Saline will play the Huron-Lincoln winner at 7 p.m. The finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Coach Tim Cain’s Father Gabriel Richard team (11-4) will play a second-round game against Dearborn Heights Robichaud at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a Division 2 bracket hosted by FGR. The Irish will play the winner of the Detroit Cody-Canton Prep game at 7 p.m. on Friday.

In Division 3, Greenhills opens with Brighton Charyl Stockwell at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Grass Lake District. The winner faces Manchester at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitmore Lake-Grass Lake is the other half of the bracket. The finals are at 7 p.m. on Friday.
