Softball: Dreadnaughts put up huge numbers in sweep of Jackson

The Dexter softball team put a nine spot on the board in the first inning and cruised to a 17-0 win over host Jackson on Monday in an SEC game. The Dreadnaughts racked up 11 hits and finished the game with five runs in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Dexter scored 13 runs in the second inning and won 24-0 as Paige Sayler didn’t allow a hit over three innings. She had five strikeouts and allowed just one walk.

Let’s begin with the first game.

Eight Dexter players had hits in the win. Livvy Mellifont was 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBI. Jenna Wagenschutz was 2 for 3 with four RBI and Brenna Cassidy was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Kylee Niswonger had a hit, a walk, an RBI and scored three times. Paige Sayler had a hit, an RBI, a walk and scored twice.

Cassidy earned the win from the circle. She allowed just three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

In game two, Sam Sutton hit TWO home runs and knocked in SIX runs and scored four times. Mellifont had two hits, FIVE RBI and three runs scored. Niswonger went 4 for 4 at the top of the order. The senior scored four runs. Maddy Thompson was 2 for 3 with FOUR RBI. Cassidy, Emma Sortor, Ella Mitchell and Camryn Chase all had two hits.
