Softball: Dexter wins three games at Salem Softball Invitational

The Dexter softball team added three victories to the win column on Saturday at the Salem Softball Invitational at Salem High School.

The Dreadnaughts started things off with a 4-2 win over Pioneer. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Dexter answered with a four-run second inning in a three-inning game. Paige Sayler had four strikeouts to earn the win and Lillie Robeson drove in two runs for Dexter. Livvy Mellifont and Ella Mitchell also had RBI.

The Dreadnaughts scored three runs in the third and added a run in the fourth in a 4-1 win over Greenhills/FGR. Dexter had six hits in the win.

Sayler earned the win again and was brilliant for the Dreads. She allowed just two hits, one run, one walk while striking out nine batters over seven innings in a dominant performance.

Sayler also hit a home run in the fourth inning. Jenna Wagenschutz was 2-for-3 and Brenna Cassidy had a hit and two RBI for the Dreads.

Sam Sutton pitched the final game for the Dreadnaughts and shut down the Wyandotte Roosevelt Bears. Sutton allowed just two hits with no runs and no walks with five strikeouts over four innings in a 15-0 Dexter win.

Sutton also was one of the big hitters on the day. She was 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Mellifont had two doubles, three RBI and scored twice from her leadoff spot in the lineup. Hannah Marsik was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Emma Sortor had a hit and two RBI, Wagenschutz had a hit with two RBI and two runs scored and Camryn Chase had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
