The Dexter boys’ track and field team competed at the SEC Conference Championships on Friday at Ypsilanti Lincoln High School. The Dreadnaughts finished third overall with 114.5 points and a track full of strong performances.
Pinckney finished first with 165.5 points while Chelsea was second with 146. Adrian was fourth (83), Lincoln fifth (59), Tecumseh sixth (30) and Jackson seventh (20).
The boys were led by sophomore Cole Cabana who won the 100m dash with a time and personal best of 10.86, and a 2nd place finish for Nathan Gariepy in the 400m of 50.83.
Senior Conor Kolka was the top distance runner taking 4th and 8th in the 1600m and 3200m respectively.
Dexter finished 2nd in the 4x400m Relay with Wilson Kasischke, Cabana, Micah Davis, and Gariepy; and took the top spot in the 4x100m Relay with Cabana, Nathan Biggs, Davis, and Cole Sheldon.
Sheldon had a busy day. As well as being on the winning 4×100, he won the Long Jump at 18-8 and the pole vault, clearing a personal best of 15-6 and being the top vaulter in the state.
Senior Noah Schultz was runner up at 14-6, and Dexter added a 4th place spot by Clark Sheldon at 12-0.
Micah Davis also won the High Jump with a leap of 6-0, and in the Shot Put Dexter added a 3rd place spot by James Livingston at 43-2.5, and a 5th by Danny Gilbert at 39-9.
Dexter will be competing at the Division 1 Regionals this Friday at Saline.
