Softball: Dreadnaughts improve to 19-6 with two more SEC wins

The Dexter softball team had a busy day on Wednesday. The Dreadnaughts defeated Pioneer 5-0 in the first game and then pounded out 16 hits for a 16-1 win over Monroe in the second game.

The talented Dreadnaughts improved to 19-6 on the season and appear to be only getting better with every time they step on the field.

In the win over Pioneer, Dexter had seven hits to just three for the Pioneers. The Dreadnaughts scored one in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. They added a final run in the fifth.

Sam Sutton (nine strikeouts) and Paige Sayler (seven strikeouts) combined and the three-hit shutout. They also allowed just two walks over seven innings.

Sayler hit a solo home run the fifth inning. Brenna Cassidy and Jenna Wagenschutz had doubles and Kylee Niswonger had a hit and two RBI.

The win over Monroe lasted only four innings as Dexter scored six in the second to make it 7-0 and added four in the third and five more in the fourth.

Sutton had four strikeouts and allowed just four hits, one run and no walks over the four innings. Niswonger and Sutton (three RBI) both went 3-for-3. Cassidy (double, two runs, two RBI), Lillie Robeson (3 RBI) and Emma Sortor (a triple and two runs scored) all had two hits for the Dreads. Sayler was 1-for-2 with two walks, three RBI and two runs and WagenSchutz was 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Dexter plays at the Chelsea Quad on Thursday and host Skyline on Friday (May 21).
