Recycling Quality Evaluation and Improvement Program

The City of Dexter is one of several municipal members of the Washtenaw County Regional Resource Management Authority (WRRMA). WRRMA’s goals include increasing the quantity of quality recyclable materials within the region. WRRMA was awarded a grant for a program to evaluate the quality of each participating community’s recycling (including the City of Dexter); then to engage in an educational campaign to improve the quality of each community’s recyclable materials, starting with what is put into curb carts. The Recycling Quality Improvement Program involves the mailing of educational materials to each address in the City, social media outreach, and curbside feedback with hang tags at the curb carts. The curbside recycling visits by WRRMA representatives are planned to begin on Monday, June 21st and continue each Monday through August 12th.

A full description of this program and recycling educational materials are available on the City’s website at: https://www.dextermi.gov/government/recycling_improvement_program.php . A video presentation about the program is available on the City’s YouTube page at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY1H-XXwc7I&t=746s .

Mandatory Outdoor Watering Restrictions

In an effort to protect our aquifers, conserve water resources, and control our peak hour water demand, the City of Dexter is continuing to enforce outdoor watering restrictions. Typical water usage in the winter is between 250,000 and 350,000 gallons per day. We are now starting to see usage over 700,000 gallons per day. City staff will be placing hang tags on houses/businesses that are not complying with the restrictions.

Outdoor watering is prohibited between 6 am and 10 am and is also restricted to odd/even days. Residents and businesses with odd numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) may do outdoor watering only on odd numbered dates. Likewise, those with even numbered addresses (2, 4, 6, 8, 0) may do outdoor watering only on even numbered dates. A simple adjustment of the start time of your irrigation system control can achieve this.

If you are watering more than usual on your odd/even day, please make sure to read your water meter (or irrigation meter) before and after a few cycles so that you are aware of how much water is being used and are not surprised by the utility bill you receive.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to protect and conserve our water resources.
