Welcome to Dexter: New Law Firm Morris and Morris PLLC

The past several Dexter Forum Zooms, I came to know a few familiar faces; Thomas Morris and his son David Morris. Through the forum, I learned the father and son team have partnered to start a new business in Dexter: Morris and Morris PLLC. They are located at 3258 Broad Street, Suite 2, above Fink Law.

I met Thomas at the first in person meeting of the Dexter Forum. Given that he and his son just opened a business in Dexter and I’ve been focusing on spotlighting business during Covid, I figured I should learn a bit more about the firm and give them a warm welcome to the community.

As I was doing a little background research to prepare for the interview, I found Thomas Morris listed on a website called Super Lawyers. “Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The patented selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.” Thomas is listed as specializing in bankruptcy, banking, business/corporate and real estate.

He explains that he’s been practicing for thirty five years so he’s competent to do it all.  However, in the field of bankruptcy he writes scholarly articles and provides expert testimony when needed. His partner, and son David, is a 2019 Notre Dame graduate and specializes in insurance defense litigation.  He defends lawsuits.  Both are very experienced in litigation.

I asked Thomas how he selected Dexter.  He explained that he graduated from U of M Law School and upon graduating, took a job in Southfield and settled in Farmington Hills. He was ready to make the move back to Ann Arbor. He was attracted to the parks and river in Dexter and wanted to be in this area to be closer to his grandchildren and have a little more rural character than Farmington Hills offered.

Also, his oldest son is a part of H.F. Software Solutions that moved to Dexter from Ann Arbor this Spring.  His daughter-in-law is a resident at U of M hospital so Dexter provides close proximity to family.

I wanted to know how he was enjoying Dexter so far. Thomas explained that whether he cycles or drives a car he has the prettiest commute  to work.  There is definitely more nature  and charm to Dexter than the concrete suburban sprawl of Farmington Hills.  He noted that as a student in law school, his favorite place to cycle was on Huron River Drive, now he is living on the road.

Thomas has represented clients from Washtenaw County for years and is excited to be accepting new clients.  He helps small businesses or people who own small businesses in trouble. Sometimes a business owner can find themselves in a rat’s nest of financial trouble.  He helps untangle the nest.  I wanted to know if he helps new small businesses start so they can avoid the headache of a rats nest.  He does.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed with financial issues trying to keep your business afloat, Thomas can show you the options available and help you not feel so overwhelmed.  If you’re starting a business but are leery due to fear, Thomas can help you find the right path and prevent future entanglements that could potentially sink you.
