Field Hockey: Dexter tops Chelsea; fall to Skyline and Pioneer

The Dexter field hockey team battled with Skyline on Tuesday before falling to the talented Eagles 5-3 in a Division 1 league game. Skyline is one of several teams ready to make a run at a state title. Dexter, the defending state champions, were even 2-2 with the Eagles after the first quarter. Skyline scored twice in the second quarter to grab a 4-2 halftime lead.

The Eagles had a third-period goal and the Dreadnaughts had a goal in the fourth quarter.

Lindsey Vantine scored twice and Ava Hauman had a goal for Dexter. Evelyn Clemens and Emily Kate Covert had assists.

Dexter had two games last week, falling to Pioneer 7-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The Pioneers are another team with the talent to book a tee time in the championship game.

On Monday, Oct. 4, Dexter knocked off rival Chelsea, 6-0.

The Dreadnaughts led by just a goal 1-0 at halftime but scored twice in the third quarter and three more in the fourth.

Dexter had six different players score in the game: Hauman, Vantine, Marissa Skinner, Gracie Burns, Sophie Alabre and Kaylen Moneypenny. Mckenna Wondrash, Clemens, Hauman, Burns and Vantine were among players picking up assists for Dexter.

Hannah Baldwin had the shutout in goal for the Dreadnaughts.

Dexter hosts Liggett on Thursday and Saline on Monday, Oct. 18. Both games are at 7 p.m.
