Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts cruise past Monroe with big first quarter

The Dexter girls’ basketball team failed to score a point in the second quarter on Tuesday night against Monroe, but don’t think the Dreadnaughts are “dreading” over it. They scored 25 points in the opening quarter and added 20 in the third for a somewhat easy 59-42 win over the host Trojans in an SEC Red game.

Dexter improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Dexter jumped out to a 25-5 lead in the first quarter and led the entire game despite being outscored 14-0 in the second quarter. They outscored the Trojans 20-16 in the third quarter and 14-7 in the final period.

Sydney Pnacek had a huge game for the Dreadnaughts. The senior forward had 10 points in the first quarter and 12 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 22 points.

Brianna Rodriguez hit two triples in the third quarter and finished with 13 points. Maddi Valentine knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter and scored 10 for Dexter.

Maggie Lewis had five points for the Dreadnaughts.
