Dexter will host the District 17 girls’ basketball tournament with games starting Feb. 28 and apparently the Dreadnaughts are ready to go. Since a tough loss to state-ranked Westfield Prep on Jan. 7, the Dreadnaughts have rattled off eight straight wins including Friday night’s 74-29 win over Huron.
Dexter has four more regular-season games to fine tune things but have been on key and on point for some time now. The Dreadnaughts do have two big games to finish the season – at Saline and at Chelsea – which should help prepare them for what could be a long trek through the postseason.
The visiting Dreadnaughts were far too strong for the River Rats on Friday. Dexter jumped out to a 24-5 lead and led 41-15 at halftime.
Maddie Valentine had another big offensive night for Dexter. The senior guard knocked down 8 of 14 shots, including three triples, to score a game-high 19 points. She also had five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Junior Chloe Perry scored 16 points and had SIX steals in the win. Senior Sydney Pnacek had 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Alena Blumberg, only a freshman, hit 4 of 7 shots and scored nine points along with a couple of steals. Alyssa Gullekson, only a sophomore, made 3 of 4 shots and finished with eight points. Brianna Rodriguez had five points, five steals and five assists for Dexter.
Dexter hosts Lincoln on Tuesday and Skyline on Friday.
