Girls Basketball: Dreadnaughts reach District final with easy win over South Lyon

The Dexter girls’ basketball team earned a trip to the District finals on Wednesday night with a convincing and impressive 55-29 win over South Lyon in the first of two Division 1 semifinal games at Dexter.

Brighton defeated South Lyon East 59-53 in the other semifinal. The Dreadnaughts (19-2) and Bulldogs (15-7) will tip off at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Dexter.

Dexter jumped out to an early lead over South Lyon and never looked back. The Dreads led 18-5 after one quarter and 34-17 at halftime. Dexter outscored the visitors 13-7 in the third quarter and 8-5 in the fourth quarter.

Four Dexter players reached double-figures in the victory.

Sydney Pnacek had another big game for the Dreadnaughts. The senior made 8 of 20 shots, including three triples, to finish with a game-high 21 points. She also had a team-high eight rebounds.

Senior Maddi Valentine also hit three triples and finished with 11 points, along with four rebounds and a team-high seven steals.

Junior Chloe Perry (three assists) and freshman Alena Blumberg (six rebounds) each had 10 points. Senior Brianna Rodriguez had a team-high five assists.
