Track & Field: Dexter runs up strong performances at Brighton Bulldog Relays

The Dexter boys and girls track & field teams traveled to Brighton High School on Saturday to compete in the annual Brighton Bulldog Relays. No team scores were kept for the 20 school field,
but Dreadnaught athletes performed well on the day.

Starting the day off in the field events saw double winner Cole Sheldon take the top spot in both the Long Jump, winning at 20’3.5”, and the Pole Vault with a jump of 14’3”. Clark Sheldon tied for 5th in the Vault at 12’0”. Shot Putter James Livingston was 4th with a toss of 44’5”, and Sam Fitzpatrick finished tied for 8th in the High Jump at 5’8”.

In individual track races, Micah Davis was runner up in the 4oom with a time of 51.00, Jonny Adamczyk finished the finals of the 200m in 8th at 24.07, and in the Freshman/Sophomore 1600 Vaughn Meyer took 7th at 4:52.38.

Dexter placed in several relay races. The 4×200 was 3rd at 1:33.05, with Cole Sheldon, Jonny Adamczyk, Lucas Anderson, Micah Davis. The 4×400 was 2nd at 3:37.33 with Davis, Adamczyk, Alex Hoffman, and Brandon Anderson. The 4×800 was 6th at 8:27.09 with Owen Ackerman, Brandon Anderson, Hoffman, and Josh Lamb. The Freshman/Sophomore 4×100 was 5th at 49.69 with Noah Boyce, Owen Walters, Cooper Thompson, and John Assenmacher, along with the FR/SOPH 4×200 was 3rd at 1:39.84 with Assenmacher, Davis Taylor, Kai Reed, and Boyce.

Highlighting the last event of the evening was the 4×100 co-ed Throwers Relay where the team of Devon Durliat, Lily Burns, Danny Gilbert, and Jamie Giese finished in 2nd with a time of 55.66.

For the girls team, Thrower Jamie Giese had an impressive day, winning the Shot Put, and breaking her own school record in the process with a throw of 39’8.5”. She also finished the Discus competition with a 6th place throw of 101’7”. The Pole Vault had three Dexter placers, with Sophia Mettes winning the day with a jump of 11’6, followed by Mikala Sposito, and Ellie Manly tied for 5th at 8’6”. Freshman High Jumper Tia Schultz finished with a personal best jump of 4’7” tied for 9th.

On the track, in individual races, the Lady Dreads had Hannah Berenson finish 5th in the 400 with 1:02. 64, along with Gracie Burns taking 6th at 1:03.18. Burns was also 6th in the 200m at 27.29. In the 800m, Ashley Mitchell was 6th at 2:27.88, Amanda McGill was 6th in the 3200 with 11:52.80, Meghan McGill was 4th in the 300 hurdles clocking in at 51.75, and in the Freshman/Sophomore 1600 Addison Bruckman was 6th at 5:54.33.

Two of Dexters’ relays finished in high spots, the 4×400 with Hannah Berenson, Meghan McGill, Gracie Burns and Ashley Mitchell was 4th at 4:16.29, and the 4×800 was 4th as well with Amanda McGill, Hannah McComas, Mitchell, and Annissa Sisson at 10:27.84
