Golf: Dreadnaughts teeing it up this weekend at D-1 State Finals   

Skyline and Dexter are sending full teams to the 2022 MHSAA Division 1 State Finals this weekend (June 10-11) at the Katke Golf Course at Ferris State University. The two local teams will tee it up with the state’s best after strong showings at Regionals earlier in the month.

Skyline finished first out of 12 teams at the Regional 6 event held June 1 at Cascades Golf Course in Jackson. The Eagles fired a team score of 300 to easily win the event. Dexter took second with a 322 while Saline landed third with a 323. The top three teams in each Regional qualify for the state finals.

Huron senior Brendan Baidel shot a 76 to qualify among the individual qualifiers.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Ieuan Jones who fired a tournament-best 71. Skyline junior Mitchell Strickland shot a 72, junior Hank Roebuck shot a 77, junior Andrew Slade shot an 80 and senior Luke Richard shot an 82.

Dexter was led by a pair of seniors at the top of their scorecard. Senior Dom Sortor shot a 74 and Allen Labadie carded a 78. Junior Niko Michos shot an 83, senior Dylan Hutchison shot an 87 and freshman Braden Richards carded a 99.

Pioneer finished with a team score of 334 at Regionals. Sophomore Eric Shen led the way with a 78 followed by fellow sophomore Morgan Lyle (84). Senior Ben Nickodemus carded an 85, sophomore Christian Rettig shot an 87 and senior Conor Lyle shot an 88 for the Pioneers.

Huron shot a team score of 347. Baidel’s 76 led the River Rats followed by sophomore Brendan Hish (89), senior Benjamin Lauer (90), sophomore Samuel Regenbogen (92) and senior Kyle Messer (103).
