Boys Basketball: Huron holds on to knock off Dexter in SEC Red matchup

There are some basketball teams you can make a few mistakes against late in the game and still recover – Ann Arbor Huron is not one of them.

Huron put a close game away late with a 58-48 win over Dexter on Tuesday in an SEC Red showdown. Both teams scored 15 points in the final quarter after Huron outscored Dexter 14-10 in the third to grab a 10-point lead.

Huron led 29-23 at halftime.

“We played tough defensively, but had costly turnovers that led to points on the other end which always makes it tougher in a game like this,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “Despite the loss, we’re proud of our young guys stepping up.”

Dexter will “go back to work to clean some things up” before its game on Friday at SEC foe Lincoln.

Xavier Blumberg played a great game for the Dreadnaughts and hit some big shots. He finished with 18 points and 5 assists. Evan Haroldson worked hard to get his 10 points and 7 rebounds. AJ Vaughn had five points and Jack Demerell and Ben Murphy each scored four for the Dreads.

Sophomore Macari Moore scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the first half for the River Rats. Braylon Dickerson scored nine of his 14 points in the second half for Huron.

The River Rats play at Bedford on Friday night.
