Swimming: Dreadnaughts return with a pair of wins in one splash

The Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team returned to the pool on Thursday with two wins in a tri-meet at Wylie pool. The Dreadnaughts knocked off Bedford 130-52 and defeated Tecumseh 143-33 in an SEC meet.

The Dexter foursome of Lucas Greatorex, Chance McArtor, Matthew Resende and Eric Smaby won the opening medley relay in 1:46.84.

The Dreads took the top three spots in the 200 free with Dylan O’Connor first (1:56.47), Jack Haidl second (1:58.60) and Dane Lee third (1:59.93). In the IM, Liam MacNeil was second (2:17.38) and Grady Wheeler third (2:19.45) for Dexter.

The Dreadnaughts dominated the 50 free with Resende first (23.26), Smaby second (23.88), Jude Smith third (24.43) and Owen Ragnes fourth (24.49). Branden Anderson was second in diving with 187.55 points.

Resende returned to the winner’s circle with his victory in the 100 butterfly (55.17). O’Connor touched second in 59.42.

In the 100 freestyle, Greatorex was great with his winning time of 51.52. Ragnes was second in 54.29. The Dreads dominated the 500 free with Haidl first (5:01.26), Lee second (5:18.91) and MacNeil third (5:33.04).

The Dexter team of Resende, Smaby, Smith and O’Connor won the 200 free relay in 1:38.08. The team of Wheeler, MacNeil, Lee and Haidl was second in 1:44.21.

Greatorex won his second individual race with a victory in the backstroke with a time of 58.55. Travis Fitch was third in 1:04.85 and Steven Merz was fourth (1:09.52).

McArtor won the breaststroke in 1:10.84 with Wheeler second in 1:12.68.

The Dreads ended the meet the same way they started – with a win. The team of Ragnes, O’Connor, Haidl and Greatorex won the 400 free relay in 3:36.59.
