Dexter HS dance team turns in two strong appearances

The DHSDT traveled to Rosemont, Ill., the weekend of Jan. 7 to take part in the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Chicagoland dance competition. The team competed their pom and jazz routines in the medium size varsity division against nine teams from across the Midwest including Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and the Dakotas. The team overcame some injuries and illness to take second place in pom and sixth place in jazz.
The team traveled to Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights on Saturday to take part in their final competition before UDA Nationals. They competed against Southview, South Lyon East, Mercy, Adams, Milford, Eisenhower, Stoney Creek, Grand Blanc, Cambridge, Utica, Northville, Walled Lake Northern, and St. Ursula Academy. The team finished strong at UDA Regionals with their Game Day (second place), Jazz (second) and Pom (third) routines.
The team, led by coaches Morgan Dubey and Julia Acton, and captains Clara Thomas and Lainey Sawin, have been hard at work since late last spring preparing for the season and UDA Nationals at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. Last February the team took fourth place at Nationals for their game day routine, and they have high hopes for this year.
The team performs next Sunday at the friends and family send-off to Nationals at Dexter High School and then travels to Orlando on Feb. 1.
