Boys Basketball: Dexter falls to Bedford in SEC matchup; Huron up next

The Dexter boys’ basketball team has had a rough stretch against the elite of the SEC, including recent games with Skyline and Pioneer. On Tuesday, the Dreadnaughts hosted perhaps the best team in the league as Bedford came to town and the big and talented Kicking Mules used a big second quarter and a solid second half for a 73-50 win.

“We had a tough time matching Bedford’s size tonight,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “This may be the most our defense has given up in our four years here at Dexter. Give credit to Bedford as they were patient and effective in their offense and their shooters were on.”

There is “no time to reflect on this one” as Dexter prepares for a game at Huron on Thursday.

Jack DeMerell led Dexter with 14 points. Xavier Blumberg had nine points and Evan Haroldson scored eight for Dexter.

Dexter took an early 13-11 lead after the first quarter, thanks to triples from Blumberg, Reeves Taylor and AJ Vaughn. But Bedford went on a 22-9 run in the second quarter to take a 33-22 lead at halftime.

Bedford outscored Dexter 19-15 in the third and 21-13 in the fourth.
