After dropping a pair on Monday to rival Skyline, the Pioneer baseball team stepped into their home batter’s box on Wednesday and delivered an impressive 2-1 win over the talented Eagles in an SEC Red matchup.

Skyline defeated Pioneer 5-1 in the first game and then 4-0 in the nightcap for a sweep of Monday’s twinbill at Skyline.

The turning point during Wednesday’s Pioneer win came in the fifth inning when the Eagles looked to rally from a 2-0 deficit by loading the bases with no outs. Pioneer’s Avery McEwen got the next two Eagles on strikeouts before Skyline pushed a run across on an RBI by Landry Jobe. But McEwen got that third out and the Pioneers kept Skyline off the board the rest of the way for a 2-1 win.

McEwen had six Ks in 6.1 innings of work and allowed just five hits. Joey Wisniewski got the final two outs of the game.
