Summer Road Work

Lexington Dr. from Dan Hoey Rd. to Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd.

Concrete removal and replacement will begin on Lexington Dr. between Dan Hoey Rd. and Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd. starting on Thursday, May 11th. The road will be closed to through traffic while work is taking place. Access to and from business on Lexington Dr. will be maintained while work is taking place (Chelsea State Bank, Dexter Mobil, Dan Hoey Business Suites). The road is anticipated to temporarily re-open to through traffic until asphalt removal and replacement begins, as noted below.

Dan Hoey Road

Asphalt removal and replacement on the east and west ends of Dan Hoey Rd., and the portion of Lexington Dr. referenced above, will begin after school recesses for summer break in June. This road work is anticipated to be complete by the time school resumes in September. During construction, Dan Hoey Rd. will be limited to one-way traffic, which will flow from Baker Rd. towards Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd.

Ann Arbor St. Road Crossing at Edison St.

After school recesses for the summer, construction crews will be working to replace the concrete sidewalk road crossing on Ann Arbor St. near Edison St. While work is taking place, Ann Arbor St. will be closed at this intersection. Please follow posted detours.

Spring Clean-Up

The City’s annual Spring Clean-Up will take place on Monday, May 15th (third Monday in May) to allow for expanded collection of bulk items at the curb.

Department of Public Works Job Opening

The City of Dexter is seeking a full-time Department of Public Works (DPW) Worker, to be a part of the City’s Public Services Team. Specific responsibilities include snow plowing, park and playground maintenance, brush removal, street and sidewalk repair, and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment in support of these activities. A Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six months, is required. Must have a high school diploma or GED.

This position offers a competitive wage and comprehensive benefit package, and is covered by an agreement with the Teamsters State, County and Municipal Workers Local 214. The City is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Opening – Department of Public Works Summer Worker

The City is seeking applications for summer positions with the City’s Department of Public Works. This position is in the Department of Public Works and will assist with mowing lawns as well as general maintenance. Work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from May/June through August/September (depending on availability). Lawncare Maintenance Reminder

As the weather is getting nicer, and outdoor vegetation has started to grow again, the Office of Community Development would like to remind residents about the City’s lawn maintenance standards. The City’s General Code of Ordinances prohibits the growth of grass or weeds over a height of 8 inches. Please be aware that the City of Dexter is not participating in “No Mow May,” and enforcement of lawn growth standards will continue during the month of May. Residents are encouraged to keep grass and weeds under 8 inches in height. Please contact the Office of Community Development at 734-580-2235 with any questions.
