Cynical girls, take note!

Can anyone who was listening to new music in the 1980s forget the songs of Michigan’s own Marshall Crenshaw? To New Wave pop they brought country and R&B elements, they brought romantic yearning, they brought the craft of a true songwriter. Says Trouser Press: “Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself.” Unlike most of the acts of that era of youthful musical attitude, Marshall Crenshaw is still going strong. These days the bespectacled romantic fool of the early 1980s is all grown up, but with his fabulous songwriting chops undiminished– and even augmented a bit by jazz harmonies on occasion. “Mixing old hits like “Someday Someway” and “Whenever You’re On My Mind” with new songs, Crenshaw showed that …he still has ‘it,’” wrote Roger Friedman of Fox News after attending a recent Crenshaw show. Come by and pick up a copy of Marshall’s new expanded reissue of the album “Miracle of Science,” celebrating his 40 Years in Showbiz! tour.
