Girls Basketball: Dexter racks up two more wins to remain undefeated

The Dexter girls’ basketball team shot two more games into the win column to improve to 4-0 on the young season. The Dreadnaughts won two games last week, including their first SEC game of the season.

On Friday, Dexter opened the SEC part of its schedule with a 55-21 win over Lincoln. The Dreadnaughts led 10-7 after the first quarter and then went on a 17-7 run in the second quarter to take a 27-14 halftime lead. They put the game away with a dominating 18-2 third quarter.

Alena Blumberg scored seven of her game-high 18 points to lead Dexter. Heidi Fuchs scored nine points and Addison Wylie had eight points and Addison Chased scored six.

The Dreadnaughts returned to the court the next day and knocked off Ferndale in another non-league game. Dexter scored 22 points in the first quarter to take an 11 point lead but Ferndale didn’t go away – out scoring the Dreads 13-4 in the second quarter to pull within 26-24 at halftime.

Defense took over in the third quarter as Dexter outscored Ferndale 6-4 to push the lead to four points. The Dreads won the fourth quarter 12-10 – thanks to 10-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line – for the 44-38 victory.
 

Blumberg led Dexter with 14 points, including 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Kindall Cabana had nine points and Chase scored eight. Fuchs had five points and Alyssa Gullekson (4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter) and Harper Backus each scored four. 

 

The Dreadnaughts opened the season with an impressive 40-29 win over Brighton and improved to 2-0 on the season with a 49-40 win over Saginaw.

Dexter hosts South Lyon East on Tuesday.
