Boys Swimming: Eagles fall in close dual-meet to Birmingham Seaholm

The Skyline boys’ swimming and diving team fell to Birmingham Seaholm on Thursday in a close loss 99-86 non-league dual-meet. Although Skyline lost the meet, there were some fantastic time drops achieved by the Eagles.

The time drop of the week was put up by Marlowe Hartnett, who dropped over 3 seconds in his 50 Free. Additional impressive time cuts were swum by Albert Gu (100 Back), Charlie Hazzi (50 Free), Wesley Jenkins (200 Free), Aidan Mazza (100 Breast), Robby Shannon (100 Free), Henry Strait (100 Breast), and Connor Zillich (500 Free).

The Eagles won the 200 Free Relay (Chris Kurniawan, Sawyer Thompson, Owen McKelvey, Lucas Caswell) as well as the 400 Free Relay (Caswell, Thompson, Andi Xi, McKelvey). In addition, Skyline captured second in the 200 Medley Relay (Kurniawan, Xi, Luke Jordan, Zander Barr) and third in both the 200 Free Relay (Shannon, Mazza, Jenkins, Zillich) and 400 Free Relay (Barr, Jordan, Jenkins, Zillich).

In the individual events, top five finishes were turned in by Caswell (200 IM-1st,100 Fly-1st), Gu (100 Back-5th), Jenkins (500 Free-5th), Jordan (100 Fly-2nd), Knight (Diving-1st), Kurniawan (100 Back-3rd, 50 Free-5th), Mazza (100 Breast-4th), McKelvey (200 Free-1st,100 Back-1st), Shannon (100 Free-5th), Strait (100 Breast-5th), Thompson (50 Free-2nd, 100 Free-4th), Xi (500 Free-2nd, 200 IM-3rd), and Zillich (500 Free-3rd, 200 Free-4th).

Skyline qualified for the State Meet in both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay, as well as Caswell in the 200 IM, 100 Free, and 100 Fly, and McKelvey in the 200 Free and 100 Back. In addition, new MISCA qualifying swims included the above, plus Kurniawan (50 Free), Thompson (50 Free), and Xi (200 IM, 500 Free).

Skyline will travel to Pioneer for a dual meet on Thursday at 6 p.m.
