Boys Basketball: Quick start helps lead Pioneer over Dexter

The Pioneer boys’ basketball team jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 78-55 win over Dexter on Friday night. Pioneer led 36-18 at halftime and 55-30 after three quarters.

The Pioneers established dominance early on, led by Tyler Mutinda (eight points) and Nelson Sompa (seven points) in an impressive first quarter.

Eleven players scored for Pioneer. Nate Freisthler continued his outstanding senior year with a game-high 21 points and Mutinda, another senior having a strong season, finished with 16 points. Junior Micah Powell knocked down three triples and finished with 10 points. Senior Morgan Lyle and sophomore Jordan Harrison each had five points. 

Dexter also had contributions from a roster full of players as 10 Dreadnaughts reached the scoring book. Jack Richards led the way with 13 points while Ben Murphy had 11 points and Scott Smith scored 10. Jack Demerell had six points and Garrett Sharp scored five points.

The Dreadnaughts play at Bedford on Tuesday and at Chelsea on Friday.

Pioneer hosts Monroe on Tuesday and play at Arbor Prep on Thursday.
