Girls Basketball: Skyline knocks off Monroe, falls to Dexter in SEC games

The Skyline girls’ basketball team knocked off visiting Monroe 33-20 on Feb. 16 in an SEC matchup.

After Skyline stumbled on Tuesday at Dexter (more on that game later), the Eagles regrouped and played their best overall game of the season earning a great win over Monroe. Skyline was led on both ends of the court by Zoie Recihert who did an outstanding job defensively on Monroe’s top scorer Bussell and also had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

“We had a great overall team effort on both ends of the court playing very strong team defense and also had seven players score,” said Coach Mike Lovelace.

Skyline held Monroe to their lowest point total of the season.

Additional Skyline scorers were Kennedy Wassef with 7 points, Vedha Kakarla with 6 points, and Anjali Kakarla and Abby Yuan each had 4 points. Addy Boucher and Meredith Fischer each had 2 points.

On Feb. 13, Skyline fell to a very talented Dexter team 66-19.

Dexter came out strong and Skyline struggled to convert on offense in the first quarter and Dexter took a 15-2 opening quarter lead. Skyline would play much better offensively in the second quarter shooting 56% but was unable to hold Dexter defensively and Dexter took a 37-16 lead. The Dreadnaughts continued to play well in the second half.

Skyline was led by Anjali Kakarla with 7 points, Kennedy Wassef with 6 points and Zoie Reichert with 5 points.

Dexter junior Alena Blumberg had 17 points and Harper Backus scored 12 in the win.
