Girls Water Polo: Eagles splash off to an 11-0-1 start and No. 2 state ranking

The Skyline girls’ water polo team has started their season with an impressive 11-0-1 start after their first three weeks of play.

The Eagles landed a #2 ranking in the state’s first top ten poll, and they have their sights set high this season with a loaded roster of experience and talent. Victories have been claimed against crosstown rivals Pioneer and Huron, along with Chelsea, Seaholm, Troy, Mason, East Lansing, Groves, and Fenwick (IL) and finished in a 9-9 tie against last year’s 4th place finisher East Kentwood.

Senior co-captain Allie Deninger (pictured) has been the team’s offensive powerhouse since her freshman year and plans on doing nothing less than going out with a bang in her senior season, and she has a solid supporting cast by her side.

Junior co-captain Britta Coultas has been blazing her own trail taking matters into her own hands finding her strengths at all positions of the field, and sophomore Evi Edlund will become a household as well with her versatility as both a shooter and a playmaker.

Defensively, Skyline welcomes freshmen goalie Julia Zhang with open arms, proving to be a top asset to this well rounded team.

The Eagles host Groves on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
