Swimming & Diving: Eagles fly to win over River Rats in SEC meet

The Skyline girls’ swimming and diving team splashed it up with rival Huron on Sept. 19 with the Eagles landing a 124-62 win over the River Rats in an SEC dual-meet. 

Skyline won the medley relay as the team of Britta Coultas, Julianna Peoples, Giulia Lynn and Anika Vaitkevicius won with a time of 2:00.09. Huron’s team of Jane Hu, Juna Sakamoto, Esmie Salinas and Maya Sudham took second in 2:02.35.

Skyline junior Annabelle Balazer won the 200 free in 2:08.84 with teammate Evi Edlund in third in 2:12.33. Huron’s Catherine Huang was second in 2:09.98.

Sakamoto, a sophomore, won the 200 IM for Huron in 2:14.84. Skyline took the next two spots with Peoples in second (2:22.53) and Lynn in third (2:28.17) for Skyline.

The Eagles took the top three spots in the 50 free: Sophomore Adrienne Schadler was first (25.53), Coultas second (26.45) and Lenci Oleksinski third (26.82).

Skyline went one-two in diving with Sylvia Bierman first (169.45 points) and Teagan McCallion second (164.15). Huron’s Ella Hutmacher was third (160.2).

The Eagles again took the top three spots, this time in the 100 butterfly: Freshman Lisa Venturini was first (1:06.38), Lynn second (1:08.28) and Balazer was third (1:10.22).

In the 100 free, Skyline went one-two-three with Oleksinski first (58.88), Vaitkevicius second (58.93) and Sadie Jordan third (1:00.6).

Skyline senior Sofia Torres took first in the 500 free for Skyline with a time of 5:34.8. Teammate Coultas was second in 5:46.71. Huron’s Huang was third in 5:54.82.

The Skyline team of Vaitkevicius, Blazer, Torres and Schadler won the 200 free relay in 1:45.88. Huron’s team of Sakamoto, Hu, Salinas and Huang took second in 1:49.23.

Schadler won her second race of the meet with a win in the backstroke with a time of 1:04.22. Huron’s Rachel Kim was second (1:08.88) and Skyline’s Venturini was third (1:09.86).

Huron went one-three in the breaststroke with Sakamoto first (1:09.66) and Emily Ngo third (1:18.26). Skyline’s Peoples was second in 1:17.34.   

Skyline’s team of Balazer, Oleksinski, Lynn and Schadler took first in the 400 free relay in 3:57.04.
