Swimming & Diving: Pioneer swims past Dexter in SEC dual-meet

The Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team scored a 151-35 victory over Dexter on Thursday night in an SEC showdown at Pioneer HS. As they usually do, the Pioneers won all three relays and dominated the individual events against an always strong Dreadnaughts team.

The Pioneer team of Cecilia Cook, Suryn Lee, Meg Pinkerton and Reese Heidenreich won the opening medley relay in 1:51.32 as the Pioneers took the top four spots.

Cook jumped back in the pool and won the 200 free in 1:59.59 with teammate Yahanna Silva Castro taking second in 2:01.56. Dexter’s Kayce McAllister was third in 2:05.81.

In the 200 IM, Pioneer took the top three spots with Heidenreich took first in 2:13.39 with Ava Griffith second (2:17.9) and Bridgette Kamara third (2:24.29).

Pioneer also took the top three spots in the 50 free with Van Ryn first (24.14), Walusek second (24.4) and Pinkerton third (24.95). Dexter’s Harper Brown was fourth in 26.14.

Grace Daly won diving for Pioneer with 237.3 points. Teammates Arianna Pagel was second (235.3) and Lisa Pando Rasia third (191.3). Dexter’s Ellie Saah was fourth with 163 points.

In the butterfly, Pioneers’ Tallulah Beg was first in 58.54 with teammates Walusek second (1:00.51) and Lee third (1:07.02).

Van Ryn won the 100 free for Pioneer with a time of 52.95. Pinkerton touched second in 54.42 and Silva Castro was third in 55.84.

In the 500 free, Ava Griffith was first in 5:16.59 for the Pioneers with teammate Megan Bigelow second in 5:34.31. Dexter’s McAllister was third in 5:41.23.

The Pioneer team of Van Ryn, Pinkerton, Heidenreich, Walusek took first in the 200 free relay in 1:37.53. Dexter’s team of Rebekah Murillo, Grace McClellan, Emma Bishop and McAllister took third in 1:51.21.

Pioneer dominated the backstroke with Cook first (1:00.8), Kamara second (1:02.43) and Amani Sanogo third in 1:03.65. Same deal in the breaststroke with Beg first (1:06.36), Lee second (1:08.12) and Heidenreich third (1:09.54). Dexter’s Murillo was fifth in 1:18.99.

In the 400 free relay, the Pioneer team of Walusek, Van Ryn, Jayla Kuzak and Cook took first in 3:37.48.
