The Dexter football team ran its winning streak to three games and improved to 4-1 on the season with a dominating 63-0 win Friday night over visiting Skyline. The Dreadnaughts continue to steamroll toward the postseason, winning their last three games by a combined score of 178-32.
The first quarter was the Cole Novara-Cooper Arnedt show. The two combined on three touchdowns as Arnedt threw TD passes of 53, 35 and 52 yards to Novara to give Dexter a 21-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Ronny Johnson took over. The senior running back scored on TD runs of 4, 38 and 42 yards to push Dexter’s lead to 42-0. Arnedt threw a 23-yard TD pass to Gabe Rychener to make it 49-0 at halftime.
Jack Votaw scored on an 11-yard TD run in the third quarter and on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Skyline did show signs of improvement during the game. Senior QB Troy McCullough-Hawkins came in the second half of the game and played very well for the Eagles. He completed some solid passes to help get the Eagles in the red zone but with a running clock, time was a factor and the Eagles couldn’t get on the scoreboard.
Arnedt finished 9-10 passing for 256 yards and 4 TDs. Johnson had 10 carries for 173 yards and 3 scores and Votaw had 9 carries for 51 yards and 2 TDs.
Novara’s big day on the receiving end included 5 catches for 162 yards and 3 TDs. Jaiden Juback had 3 receptions for 71 yards.
Trey Kuhr made all seven extra points for the Dreadnaughts.
Dexter’s defense held Skyline to 125 total yards and a shutout. Senior linebacker Owen Wondrash led the defense with 10 tackles with 2 tackles for loss. Junior defensive lineman Sammy Cormier had a big game with 8 tackles including a sack. Junior linebacker Kyle Sislo had 6 tackles and caught an interception. And senior linebacker Matthew Clayton added 5 tackles, two of those for loss.
Skyline’s top performers were seniors Traci Lincoln (11 carries for 85 yards), Troy McCullough-Hawkins (3 for 7 passing for 46 yards) and Donovan Hill (5 solo tackles).
Dexter (4-1) plays at Pioneer (3-2) on Friday night.
The Eagles host Monroe on Friday. They then face Pioneer on Senior night for the final home game of the season.
