Swimming & Diving: Eagles dunk Hornets in SEC dual-meet showdown

Two state powerhouses jumped into the pool for an SEC dual-meet showdown and it was the Skyline Eagles who landed in the win column. Skyline won six individual events and swept the relays to score an impressive 115-71 win over rival Saline at Skyline on Oct. 8.

The Skyline team of Giula Lynn, Julianna Peoples, Sofia Torres and Adrienne Schadler opened the meet with a time of 2:00.29 to win the medley relay.

Schadler, the talented sophomore, jumped right back in the water and won the 200 free in 1:56.30. Teammate Annabelle Balazer was second in 2:02.55.

The Eagles went two-three in the 200 IM with Torres (2:18.74) and Peoples (2:24.57). Skyline swept the 50 free with senior Anika Vaitkevicius first (26.33), Emmie Pokryfke second (26.35) and Lenci Oleksinski third (26.72). Freshman Sadie Jordan was fourth (27.44). 

Skyline’s Teagan McCallion was second in diving with 188.3 points. Payton Oleksinski was fourth (167.85) and Sylvia Bierman was fifth (157.8) for the Eagles.

Sophomore Anna Williams won the butterfly for Skyline with a time of 1:06.8. Maya Zogaib, a freshman, was third in 1:12.64.

In the 100 free, Vaitkevicius was second (57.55), Oleksinski was third (59.32) and Pokryfke was fourth (59.57).

The Eagles went one-two in the 500 free with Schadler touching first in 5:14.28 and Balazer in second in 5:27.48. Torres was fourth in 5:44.51.

The Skyline team of Oleksinski, Chloe Majorprice, Vaitkevicius and Pokryfke won the 200 free relay in 1:49.26.

Skyline freshman Giulia Lynn won the backstroke in 1:08.01. Violet Jenkins was fourth in 1:22.67.

In the breaststroke, Peoples touched second in 1:16.18.

The Skyline team of Torres, Blazer, Vaitkevicius and Schadler won the 400 free relay in 3:49.39.
