Boys Cross Country: Pioneer, Dexter run strong races at D-1 State Finals

Northville ran away with the Division 1 MHSAA championship at the State Finals on Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway. The aptly named Mustangs finished with 99 points, 70 better than “runner-up” Saline. Brighton was third with 193 points, Kalamazoo Central ran fourth (198) and Jenison was fifth (226).

Both Pioneer and Dexter had strong runs on the challenging MIS course. The Pioneers finished in 14th place with 392 points while the Dreadnaughts crossed in 16th place with 416 points. Skyline finished with 515 points and landed in 25th place.

Beckett Crooks (top photo) had an outstanding finish for the Pioneers. Only a junior, Beckett cracked the competitive top 10 with a time of 15:26.9 which landed him in eighth place. Theo Sacks-Thomas, another junior, crossed the finish line in 78th place with a time of 16:12.1.

Other strong runs for Pioneer included Quinn Davis (149th, 16:41.7), Walker Ledbetter (151st, 16:42.1), Thomas DeJesus (177th, 16:54.1) and Colin Courage (234th, 17:35.5).    


Talented Julian Linebaugh (above) led Dexter across the finish line. The senior finished in 23rd place with a time of 15:41.5. Speaking of talented, senior Caleb Snyder ran a time of 16:17.2 to finish in 88th place for the Dreadnaughts. Sophomore Coen Hill was 92nd with a time of 16:53.0.

Other strong runs for Dexter included Scott Smith (173rd, 16:53.0), Cole Doty (197th, 17:05.7), Nick Martens (213th, 17:15.9) and Nicholas Reiser (218th, 17:19.4).

Skyline was led by Bruno Cifaldi who finished 125th in 16:31.0. Other strong runs for the Eagles included Zeke Lafferty (135th, 16:34.8), Matthew Guikema (136th, 16:35.0), Martin Gehrke (175th, 16:53.7), Oskar MacArthur (176th, 16:53.8), and Jack Robichaud (203rd, 17:09.0).
