The young Skyline girls basketball team finished December with a 4-3 record heading into the New Year and plenty of high hopes for 2025.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, Skyline hosted Flint Hamady. The short-handed Eagles were missing multiple players in this game but battled hard against an aggressive and solid Flint Hamady team.
“Hamady had aggressive full court man to man pressure mixing in traps but we did well at times handling the pressure to convert on layups at the basket,” said Skyline Coach Mike Lovelace. “We were working hard to stay in front defensively as Hamady worked to drive to the basket.”
Skyline had an 11-8 first quarter lead and continued to lead midway through the second quarter before Hamady went on a run the last few minutes to take a 24-17 lead into halftime. Skyline had too many turnovers in the third quarter and Hamady was able to extend the lead to double digits.
Skyline would rally midway through the fourth quarter with full court pressure and Hamady would show poise and ball control the last few minutes to secure the win 44-33.
Skyline was led by Sadie Jordan with 13 points and Zoie Reichert with 7 points. Jane Jordan had 5 points, Abby Yuan scored 4 points and Josie Lovelace and Alex Strauss each had 2 points..
Skyline played at Whitmore Lake on Dec. 19 and used excellent half court man to man defense throughout to win 41-11. Coming into the game Whitmore Lake had been averaging 50 pts/game over their previous four games.
Skyline started strong with a 10-1 lead after the first quarter and then took a 22-5 lead into halftime.
Jordan had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and added 5 steals. Reichert had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 7 steals and 2 blocks. Other players getting into the scoring column Jane Jordan (5 points), Alex Strauss (4), Abby Yuan and Josie Lovelace (3), and Gabi Arocha, Viviann Brabec and Faith Palmbos (2).
The Eagles will play at Bedford on Friday.
