ANN ARBOR – The Guild of Artists & Artisans (The Guild) announces its first juried exhibition of 2025, Anything Goes, the fifth annual all media exhibition in Gutman Gallery! The exhibition kicks off with an open house style reception on Friday, January 17 from 4-6pm and runs through February 22.
Anything Goes was juried by guest juror, Chris Nordin—designer, master glassblower, & sculptor. The exhibition features work from talented artists, representing a variety of styles, techniques, and media. One piece, “The Light Within” by E Ingrid Tietz, is a uniquely constructed porcelain lantern that the artist uses to represent women who have been objectified, which may color how they view themselves and outwardly manifest their inner light. Another exhibiting artist, Nataliya Pryzant, experiments with 3D texture and dripping stained glass transparent paint to create “Ethereal Canopies. Warm.” The show also includes “Spring Fling,” an acrylic and collage piece by Claudia Hershman; “Tracks of My Tears,” a black and white photograph by Steven Hauptman; and “Birch Trees,” made up of photographic prints on cotton rag paper by Carrie McClintock, among many others.
The community is invited to experience the exhibition firsthand at the open house on Friday, January 17 from 4-6pm at the Gutman Gallery (118 N. Fourth Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104). Attendees will be able to meet some of the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and listen to live music provided by Cleveland Sparrow. Macon Creek, the Award Partner for the Anything Goes exhibition, will present artist awards around 5pm to five artists in the categories of First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and two Honorable Mentions. Macon Creek, formally known as Huron River Art Collective, is an arts organization that empowers and inspires a diverse community of artists, educators, and entrepreneurs. With a vast campus located in southeast Michigan, Macon Creek has a beautiful space dedicated to art, innovation, and sustainability.
In addition, multiple workshops will be offered to the community throughout the duration of the exhibition. Taking place at the Gutman Gallery, the events include the Anything Goes Workshop #1: Rock Painting with Andrea Lozano on Friday, January 24 from 5:30-7:30pm (register here | $35 participant fee); Anything Goes Skill Share: Framing with Lisse Williams on Saturday, February 1 from 10am-12pm (register here | free); and Anything Goes Workshop #2: Mixed Media Animal Art Box with Nicole McKay on Saturday, February 15 from 10am-12pm (register here | $30 participant fee).
