Swimming: Pioneer takes first in eight-team AA Huron Relays  

The Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team splashed off the new season with an impressive showing at the annual Huron Relays on Aug. 22. The Pioneers took first in the eight-team event with 464 points, edging second-place Northville (422 points).

Saline finished third with 346 points followed by Brighton (330), South Lyon East (308), Skyline (276), Huron (220) and Dexter (184).

The Pioneer team of Yan Ling Adler, Tallulah Beg, Poppy LaCrosse and Katelyn Van Ryn won the opening medley relay with a time of 1:50.17. Skyline’s team of Giulia Lynn, Janelle Liu, Julianna Peoples and Lenci Oleksinski took fifth in 1:59.44.

Pioneer’s foursome of Yahanna Silva Castro, Nikita Lehman, Ava Griffith and Van Ryn won the 400 free relay in 3:40.04. Skyline’s team of Anna Williams, Annabelle Balazer, Oleksinski and Adrienne Schadler touched second in 3:49.54. Dexter’s team of Kayce McAllister, Brooke Ganas, Delia Smaby and Rebekah Murillo was fifth in 4:04.36. 

Pioneer (Beg, Suryn Lee, Harper Feyen and Laine Waits) won its third straight event with a first-place time of 4:06.67 in the 400 IM relay.

The Pioneer team of Cecilia Walusek, LaCrosse, Silva Castro and Feyen won the butterfly relay in 1:47.69. Skyline’s team of Peoples, Goldstein, Lynn and Liue was fourth in 1:58.76.

Pioneer’s team of Walusek, Adler, Waits and Lehman won the backstroke relay in 1:52.58. Skyline’s team of Lisa Venturini, Ruthie Zhang, Gabby Delano and Olivia Papajcik was fifth in 2:13.76. Dexter’s team of Elena Ragnes, Natalia Rivera, Caroline Fealy and Smaby was sixth (2:19.97).

In the 800 freestyle relay, Pioneer’s team of Lee, Griffith, LaCrosse and Amani Sanogo took first in 8:09.84. Skyline’s team of Schadler, Anna Williams, Balazer and Maya Goldstein finished third in 8:21.81.

Pioneer’s team of Walusek, Beg, Waits and Lee won the 200 breaststroke relay in 2:05. 30. The Huron team of Juna Sakamoto, Abigail Whitehead, Catherine Huang and Madeleine Pale was fifth in 2:17.58.

In the 200 free relay, Skyline’s team of Schadler, Lenci Oleksinski, Maya Goldstein and Balazer took third in 1:45.66.

Skyline was third in diving with 32 points. Pioneer took fourth with 30.
