City Hall Holiday Closure and Trash Delay
City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025 for the Labor Day holiday.
Trash/recycle/compost pick-up will be delayed until Tuesday, September 2, 2025 due to the holiday. As this is the first pick-up on the month, bulk items will also be collected on Tuesday.

Back to School
The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 (half day). Drivers should allow for extra travel time due to increased vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic in and around the City. Please be courteous by stopping to allow pedestrians to cross the street and by not blocking intersections while stopped in traffic.
School hours are as follows:
– Creekside/High School – 8:00 a.m. to 2:53 p.m. (11:25 a.m. on half days)
– All other schools – 8:14 a.m. to 3:07 p.m. (11:40 a.m. on half days)
Crossing Guard Locations
Starting on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, crossing guards will be stationed at the two following locations approximately 30 minutes before school starts in the morning, and for 30 minutes after school ends:
– The pedestrian island on Baker Rd., near Creekside Intermediate School
– At the intersection of Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd. and Meadow View Dr., near the Mill Creek Middle School entry drive.
Dexter Accepting Letters of Interest for Property at Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd. and Meadow View Dr.
With the passage of the proposal on the August 5th ballot, the City of Dexter is now accepting Letters of Interest (LOI) from parties interested in the purchase of City property at the intersection of Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd. and Meadow View Dr. The City will be accepting LOIs until Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Parties submitting an LOI should, at a minimum: 1) identify the entity, 2) provide a brief description of their interest in the property, 3) offer price, and 4) time period desired for exclusive right and ability to conduct due diligence and pursue/obtain land entitlement. Those interested in submitting LOIs should be aware that this a public process, and LOIs will be public. Closure of Broad St. at Railroad Crossing – Date Change
The City has received notice from AMTRAK/MDOT that Broad St. at the railroad crossing will now be closed from Tuesday, September 2nd through Friday, September 12th (weather dependent) for work on the AMTRAK/MDOT railroad. The crossing at Central St. will remain open to traffic. Please follow posted detours.

The City of Dexter is seeking an Associate Planner to serve in the Community Development Office. This position provides professional planning services related to the City’s Master Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and General Code of Ordinances.
Under the supervision of the Community Development Manager, the Associate Planner performs a variety of duties related to the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of technical land use, environmental, zoning and other City planning data, and ensures compliance with the City’s development standards. The Associate Planner is responsible for the coordination, scheduling, processing, monitoring and documenting of zoning compliance and land use permit applications (such as dwelling/commercial additions, decks, fences, signs, right-of-way, etc.). Tasks such as managing and implementing projects related to land use planning, plan implementation, code enforcement, site inspections, and committee management are also assigned to this position.

Hours are flexible, but candidates must be able to be present during Farmers Market hours (Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons, May – October). Specific duties include: event planning, managing registration, programming, and recruitment for the Farmers Market, Community Garden, and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival.
