Hockey: Dexter keeps on rolling, tops Huron 3-0

The Dexter hockey team remained perfect in 2018 and improved to an impressive 11-3 on the season with Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ann Arbor Huron at the Vet.

The River Rats are a young and inexperienced team but played the Dreadnaughts tough, especially in the first period. Senior Ethan St. Pierre played well in the net for the River Rats, making some big saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless.

At the other end of the rink, Huron did apply some pressure but Dexter’s standout goalie Kristoffer Eberly kept the visitors out of the net.

Junior Alex Mills scored an unassisted goal in the second period to give the Dreadnaughts a 1-0 lead.

A slap shot off the stick of Kyle Burke with an assist from Logan Eggleston gave Dexter a 2-0 lead in the third period. Ryan Lotz scored to make it 3-0 in the third period with assists from Luke Coogan and Ryan Kniesteadt.

Eberly, only a freshman, recorded his fourth shutout of the season and second straight for the Dreadnaughts.

Dexter defeated host Riverview 5-0 on Friday.

Kyle Knapp, Eggleston, Ryan Lotz, Mills and Kniesteadt scored for Dexter.

“We are on a roll right now,” said Dexter Coach Donnie Busdeker. “We have a great group of kids. They are working hard and holding each other accountable.”

Dexter hosts Lumen Christi on Wednesday and Cabrini on Saturday. Both games are at 7 p.m. at the Vet.

Huron faces Canton at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ice Cube. The River Rats face Skyline at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Chelsea.
