Boys Basketball: Dreadnaughts bounce Brighton in Washtenaw Hoops Showcase

Dexter helped tip off the Washtenaw Hoops Showcase on Saturday afternoon and the Dreadnaughts did it in winning fashion. The Dreads went on the defensive at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center and scored an impressive 47-34 win over Brighton in the first of five games at EMU.

Dexter improved to 4-1 on the season and have won four straight since a season-opening loss at Salem.

“Our defense played tough (Saturday) and we had a pretty balanced scoring attack,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “Aidan Dexter came off the bench and sparked us again. And Cal Bavineau was solid on both ends for us.”

Aidan Dexter, a junior, scored a team-best 11 points. He scored all his points in the second half, including two triples in the third quarter. Junior Colin Parachek had eight points in the first half and finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Bavineau, a sophomore point guard, had five points and five assists. Marco Lucchesi and Ryan Trinkle each scored five points in the win.

After trailing the Bulldogs 13-8 after the first quarter, Dexter scored 17 points in the second quarter to take a 25-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Dreads held Brighton to six points in the third quarter and led 37-28 heading into the final quarter.

The Dreadnaughts return to action on Friday, Jan. 10 at Pioneer in an SEC crossover game.
