Boys Basketball: Dreadnaughts head to Districts following Senior Night win

Dexter is officially ready for Districts – ready or not, here they come.

The Dreadnaughts hosted Parma Western on Thursday night in their final regular-season game of the season and went out in style with an impressive 50-43 victory.

“It was a great win on Senior Night to close out the regular season against a good Parma Western team,” said Dexter Coach Jason Rushton. “We had a special senior moment at the end where we were able to get our senior team manager (Dat Nguyen) in and he was able to score his first ever point from the foul line to close us out.”

It was a great way to end one chapter while a new, and more difficult one, awaits on Wednesday night in Brighton.

Dexter is playing in the Brighton District and will open up in the semifinals against the winner of the Pinckney-Skyline game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Skyline went 14-6 on the season and defeated a couple of strong teams down the stretch, including No. 1 ranked Huron and Detroit Country Day on Friday.

Dexter will bring a two-game winning streak, after beating Monroe on Tuesday, and some confidence into the match-up most likely against the talented Eagles.

The Dreadnaughts trailed Parma Western 14-9 after the first quarter but went on the offensive with 17 second-quarter points to take a 26-24 halftime lead. The Dreads won the third quarter 9-6 and outscored the visitors 15-13 in the final quarter.

Aidan Dexter had a big game for the Dreadnaughts. The junior knocked down four triples in the first half and finished with a team-high 14 points.

Junior Colin Parachek had his usual strong all-around game with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Freshman Brennan Parachek had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Senior Marco Lucchesi had six points and played great defensively all night for Dexter.
